Ayurvedic Origins
Ayurveda is most commonly described as the ‘Science of life’. It is a 5000yr old, tried and tested traditional outline to living a life that respects our body’s needs for living, while living. Applying the correct practices, with respect to an individuals constitution, leads to a life of vitality, longevity and wellbeing.
Ayurveda has many of the answer’s to our Western ailments simply because it has a different more holistic approach. Practitioners respect the body as if it were a temple, housing many interconnected parts, all having influence on the other with equal importance. A Mind, Body and Soul approach, Ayurveda practices ease in place of force, expression over repression and acceptance of things, as they are.
I was introduced to the principles of Ayurveda at 13 when I began seeing a Naturopath for the 1st time. Among other things, He recommended that I seek out a Yoga class. I did, and so began the journey of understanding Ayurvedic healing. I applied what I could understand and did my best to make sense of things I couldn’t with the resourcing I had around me. It was not until I set foot on the motherland of India herself, that everything began to truly make sense to me. India was an instant immersion into the reality I had been seeking for so long. A community thriving & surviving on connection, ritual, prayer and a genuine respect for the sacredness of life itself. I was 26 the 1st time I visited India, I was 26 the 1st time I realised it takes an internal revolution to accept the truth of living a well life. The concept was both simple and completely radical.
It was being in India, that I experienced Ayurveda as not some diet, some regime, some way to restrict and squeeze the joy out of your life. But rather it was a pathway paved slowly, through experience, patience, and commitment. Precious are the moments of realisation and awareness that dawn on you only amidst practices that have been repeated so many times that the whispers of the soul can be heard.
Ayurveda is a pathway to living the long, vital, vibrant life we all ‘seek’ so desperately. Ayurveda guides you to love your body, and show it just how grateful you are for every new day gifted to you xo
